I’ve had the Thimble Blossoms pattern for the On A Whim quilt for some time, but haven’t made one. When Camille recently started working on one out of Briar Rose and invited people to join in, it took me only a day or two to cave.
The fabric I’m using is a fat quarter bundle of an Anthology Fabrics collection – the name of which escapes me (and wasn’t on any of my selvages either – bummer!) but I’ve had it for a few years and have always intended to pair it with the Kona Cotton Ice Frappe solid fabric. I had planned to make a different quilt with it, but I guess this pattern is aptly named because I changed it … on a whim! This is a color scheme I don’t often prefer, but I like the way it all plays together. The photos aren’t what I hoped for; a wildfire in the area has made lighting a little tricky.
So far I love this pattern. It’s a quick block to make and I love how the very soft ice frappe color really pops against the oranges, browns and grays of the fabrics. I’m hoping for a fall-ish quilt that doesn’t scream fall.
All the blocks are cut and neatly stacked, but I need to return to a few other projects with deadlines before I give more time to this quilt. It still feels like summer around here so hopefully when we’re ready to cuddle up with Autumn I’ll have it finished!
