Kosher salt. A product I never owned until now. I am thankful that I do.
I have only been cooking for a couple of years and I have a lot to learn. I have also learned a lot. A lesson I most recently learned is to use kosher salt when a recipe calls for kosher salt. In my sad attempt to save money I never bought it, because in my mind it was just salt and, well, I already had (table) salt I could use. Big mistake.
It truly does make a difference in cooking. I love the texture and the burst of flavor that it gives compared to regular table salt. I am glad that I finally gave in and spent the whole $2 it cost to buy a box of kosher salt.
So far I have used it in a spice rub for chicken, on popcorn, fococcia bread, on vegetables, and others. “Others” means I can’t think of anything else even though I know I have used it more than that.
Use it when a recipe calls for it. Try it when it doesn’t. See what you think. It is worth it.
Am I the only one who has made this mistake?

How funny, I was at a friends house for dinner last night and was thinking the same thing because I realized she had both salts. I mostly realized because it was the coarse salt too so I wondered if it made a difference.
You are so right Christa~~ I don’t even own table salt. It’s amazing if you do a salt ‘taste test’ to see what really adds flavor and what tastes like metal!
