American Girl Experience

My daughters each own an American Girl Doll.  They are the priciest, best dolls we have ever had.  The amount of time they spend playing with them and how long they have lasted help me to justify the {out of control} cost.  They don’t have a bunch of accessories and outfits, so my oldest daughter has been spending some time making things for her doll that are mini sized.

I have loved watching her do this because it encourages her to be thrifty and get creative with items we already have.  It amazes me how much time she will spend with it and her attention to detail.  One of the other things I like about this type of play is that it allows girls to be young and to play and imagine and to be children.  I’m all about innocence and allowing children to take their sweet time growing up and experiencing adult things.  The other day she had her doll help her plant some flower seeds so they can grow them together.  She had seen the garden set on the AG website and made her own version.  I just love this creativity!

All in all, I’m a fan.  Thank you, American Girl, for producing such a great doll and allowing my daughters to play like the children that they are.

What types of play do you encourage for children?
