Nothing says Valentine’s day to me like chocolate and strawberries. I made this delicious cake for a get together with some friends.
I used this recipe and yes, it really was amazing. It was a big cake and we ate nearly the entire thing.
If I were to do it again I would add a lot more strawberries. This was all that I had at the time. The strawberries were my favorite part. Of course, if you are planning on saving any of it for later, putting the strawberries on top isn’t the best idea. It won’t be very good the next day.
I formed the heart shape by cooking part of the batter in a square pan, and part of it in a circle pan. I then cut the circle cake in half and set each half against two edges of the square cake. I had to do a little bit of trimming off of it to get it the right shape, but I like how it turned out. I like that I didn’t have to buy a new pan even more.
I also recently made these valentines sugar cookies:
I tried my hand at using royal icing. It is a lot of fun and can make for some pretty amazing cookies – not that these are amazing or anything. They could use a little work. I could really see myself getting addicted to frosting cookies with royal icing. I cannot see myself getting addicted to eating them, however. I am not a huge fan of the taste. Maybe that’s a good thing.
Happy almost Valentine’s Day!

wow. those are both amazing. I’m definitely lacking in the baking department.
