I’ve watched Kristen start her red, white and blue quilt through the Bloggers Quilt Along and I finally decided to jump in. Using fabric left over from the Summertime and Spring Street collections, I made the first four blocks and am now caught up. Like Kristen, I’ve made two of each block. Here they are:
Block 1
The black and white block was my first experience with fussy cuts. I love how the baskets and flower turned out.
Block 2
This block was frustrating because the cutting instructions were incorrect. The half square triangle piecing squares needed to be 2 7/8 inches, not 2.5 inches. I didn’t notice it until I had already made the triangles and they weren’t large enough. Once I corrected that problem they came together quickly and I really like this star block, especially with the flying geese used as a star point.
I wasn’t sure at first if I would like the Spring street print mixed in with the others but after I saw that cute little rooster weather vane in the center of this block I was sold. Love it!
Block 3
Again, the scenery in the Spring street fabric really adds a lot to the block. I love the tree, flowers, and park bench.
Block 4
In spite of how complicated this block appears, it’s really quite simple and they came together quickly. After finishing the quilt blocks for this project, these 8.5 inch squares feel like a breeze.
This is going to be a fun project! I’m excited to see January’s block later this month, and happy to be caught up on something for now.

cute! They look great.
