Since finding this sign on Pinterest, I wanted to make one. I still need to make one for my house, by my wonderful husband helped me make one as a Christmas gift for my parents. We used an old pallet that a local business let us take.
We cut the wood into approximately the same length. Then we sanded them like crazy. There are some spots where the stain looked differently on the wood and that was usually from lack of good sanding. We nailed the pieces together how we wanted them and used a gel stain to stain the wood. (I had leftover from this project).
I don’t have any stencils, so we printed a font on card stock and then cut it out with an exacto knife. We taped our stencil over the wood and painted. I used a bigger brush then I should have because some of the paint bled a bit into the other letters, but we touched it up afterward.
My parents are wonderful. They are the parents of 8 children and have been such an example to us. Many people in our church serve missions and my siblings and I have done so also, so I wanted to make this sign based on a phrase from a recent talk.
The wood did warp a bit after staining it and nailing it, but that’s also the beauty of this style of sign.
