Pumpkin Embroidery

I’m trying to be a better finisher.  This fall I pulled out an unfinished embroidery and worked on it while waiting in the kindergarten carpool line.  Instead of stitching it in color I stitched it in ivory thread on a tea-stained muslin.

My favorite part is the section of pumpkin filled with words.  I’m glad the project is finished, but a little disappointed in my choice of background; it should have been much darker.  What looked like enough contrast close up turns out to be not nearly enough from a distance.  I went ahead and framed it, then hung it up.  The problem is that unless you’re standing right in front of it, it just looks like brown paper in a picture frame.  Bummer.  I wish I’d done it on dark chocolate fabric.  But up close it is cute, so we’ll see if I can find something better to do with it.

Live and learn, right?  At least there’s one less unfinished project in my life.
Happy Thanksgiving!
