Velvet Pumpkin Giveaway!

So, two years ago I got my first introduction to “velvet pumpkins” and immediately started collecting pumpkin stems so I could make my own.  Last year I collected more stems but didn’t make any pumpkins.

So this year, after a long and somewhat frustrating hunt for velvet fabric, I took a deep breath and dyed my own fabric.  I’ve never seen a velvet pumpkin in real life; I’ve only seen pictures of them online.  It took some experimenting but I like how these velvet pumpkins turned out.  A little bit slouchy, a little bit round, some expected colors and some surprises.  My children have been increasingly surprised at the colors of fabric coming out of my pot, and I have a few more I’d like to try.

So far I’ve made pumpkins in three shades of orange, a butter yellow, fuchsia, pink and a beautiful taupe color.  It’s been time consuming but very fun.

Because I’ve had so much fun with this project, I want to share some pumpkins.  I’ll be giving away a set of FOUR velvet pumpkins in various colors and sizes.  To enter, please leave a comment telling us which color you like the best.

The giveaway will close at midnight on Friday, November 11, 2011.  The winner will be announced Saturday.  Good luck!

I definitely like the orange and cream ones – I’m a big fan of “traditional” colors for holiday decorations. Such a cute idea!!
