Landscaping the Flowerbed

I’ve been completely obsessed with gardening for weeks now.  The weather has been beautiful and working in the yard has brought a quiet to my days that my heart craves.  Occasionally one of my little ones will join me in the work, which is also a pleasure.  After much planning and work (and a small fortune at the local nurseries) I’ve planted a very large flowerbed in our backyard.

We brought in a lot of dirt several weeks ago to fill our garden boxes and build up some spots.  It doesn’t look like much in the pictures, but I believe it will become really beautiful in a few years when some of the bushes have matured.  The bare spot behind the purple salvia is saved for a tree, which we’ll plant in the fall.

What’s growing here?  Lilac, burning bush, boxwood, mountain fire pieris, three types of lavender, two types of succulents, liatris, hydrangea, English daisies, Jacob’s ladder, more than 100 bulbs (which my baby helped plant; we’ll see how they turn out) and…

I’m putting away the shovel for a while and will content myself with enjoying things like this:

Happy Gardening!
