What I’m Working on Wednesday

tulapink100blocks

I am excited to have started on my City Sampler quilt.  After making a test block and then doing some thinking, I decided I’m going to make this quilt in all blues.  When I say that I mean blue, periwinkle, aqua, a bit of citron and green, with some whites and grays.  I have always loved blue and have a ton of blue fabric, so making it this way is totally “me.”

I’m following the outline that Intrepid Thread is doing in their quilt along so above are blocks #1 and #11.

For some reason the last one, number 61, is my favorite.  The fabrics don’t coordinate like they do in the other blocks but I really love the vintage feel of the prints in this block.

I have three more blocks to make in order to finish the ten/month goal.  I’m really enjoying these blocks as they come together quickly and the piecing is simple.  I’m excited for my rainbow of blues to take shape!

Fabulous Finds Friday

I want to make this necklace that I found on pinterest. I love how colorful it is.

This rainbow scrap quilt from The Ballarat Patchwork is calling to me. If I ever get around to it, I will definitely share here.rainbow scrap quilt

I made chocolate covered bacon for my husband for our anniversary today. I just drizzled it over the bacon instead of completely covering it. We will see if he likes it or not.

Happy Friday!

I bought this broken herringbone quilt pattern from violet craft and I’m finally getting around to working on it! I have all my strips sewn together and now I need to cut and re-piece. I’m loving it so far and am excited to finish!

Garden time!

Mother’s Day has passed and now it is safe to plant a garden in Colorado! I’m so excited to get everything in the ground and to watch it grow!

My herbs are coming back in full force from last year and I have already been able to cut from them to use in the kitchen! Ill be adding several varieties of basil along with dill, rosemary, parsley, and mint.

My huge find over the weekend was a yellow peony! I’ve been wanting some for years but couldn’t swallow the price of ordering online. I saw this one single yellow plant at Home Depot and immediately snatched it up! I’m off to find the perfect place in the yard for it.

I love the growing season!

Fabulous Finds Friday

I’m loving this camera pencil sharpener.  I have an old camera collection and our pencil sharpener just bit the dust so I’m thinking this may be just the thing.

Because I have recenlty been using my phone more to take pictures, and often over ledges and near water, I decided having a case with a strap would be a great idea for me.  I don’t know if it would end up driving me crazy or not but it would make me feel better knowing that I wouldn’t be paying to replace a phone if I dropped it.  I think I may give it a try.

I’ve been more and more intrigued with the whole Project Life way of scrapbooking.  I can see my daughers loving it as a fun way of journal writing and scrapbooking.  I especially like the precut insert cards ready to be journaled on.  Very cute.

And lastly, I love these new pants I got a few days ago at Cabelas.  I already want to live in them.  So comfy and perfect for hiking and exploring.

What I’m working on Wednesday

Jennifer and I took a paper piecing class last week. It was so fun to learn paper piecing and to learn by making this block! I love it and want to make more.

Fabulous Friday Finds

Right now my life is revolving around boxes. We are getting the house partially packed in anticipation of putting it on the market. So not a lot of fabulous finds unless you count great prices on moving essentials:-)!

I am loving the shellac mani pedi I got this week. A standard manicure last under 12 hours for me. I have very oily nails and no matter what they do it will chip by nighttime on the first day. This gel polish is awesome (if a bit hard on the nails). It never chips and is dry as soon as it finishes curing (about 60 seconds under the light box). I even washed about 100 jars the first night and its still perfect. I went with a basic ballerina pink on the fingers but branched out on my toes to teal. It is lots of fun. It is pretty close to the second finger below…

Speaking of nails, my favorite nail polish from college (which I still use regularly) has been deemed a classic. In the most recent Martha Stewart Living Chanel’s ‘Vamp’ nail polish was named in the list of iconic colors. Love knowing that I am still hip.

I also found this great sweater that I have to stop myself from wearing everyday at Title Nine.

Finally, while at Title Nine (the actual reason I was in the store) I  found what I think is the best sports bra ever! This is the Solid Tech Athena Bra and is worth every penny.

What I’m Working on Wednesday

I finished my second quilt this afternoon!  I have been in love with this nautical map print for a long time and was just waiting for an excuse to buy some.  I wanted to make a baby quilt that really highlighted the map and this is what I came up with: IMG_6428 Unlike my sisters in law, I am just learning how to quilt.  I thoroughly enjoy trying to come up with a design, and piecing the top.  However, I have a hard with machine quilting it myself.  It is beautiful until I start quilting it and then it just seems to fall apart.  This one turned out better than the last but there are still a few things about it that bug me. Perhaps I should learn how to really do it rather than just making it up as I go. IMG_6440 For the back I used a navy print with adorable little ships. IMG_6449 I really wanted to use this anchors away print for the back, but when I bought the fabric it said this was on backorder until August.  I just looked and they now have 298 yards of it in stock.  Go Figure.  ANCHORS And just because she is so cute and wanted to a be in every picture:IMG_6454I hope that the little baby that will soon be using this blanket likes it as much as I do (or rather her mother).  I kind of want to just keep it for myself.

Fabulous Finds Friday

Found anything awesome lately?  Here are a few things that have caught my eye:

harderworkluckier

I really like this canvas print.  I’d love to hang it somewhere for my children to see every day.

blueombrebasket

I wish this basket was sold at my local Target.  I’d like to see it in person, but I’m loving the look of it and kind of wish I had one in every size!

crestmirror

I recently made changes in some bedrooms and am looking for a small mirror to hang over a twin bed.  Something like this might look pretty.

lappljung-ruta-rug-low-pile

I’m liking this rug right now.

scrapbasket

I’m also wishing for this book.  I browsed it a few weeks ago and would love to make a few projects from it.

Have a great day!

Updating

Our main level bathroom has needed some updating for awhile. The size of the vanity in the bathroom was an odd size, so figuring out what to replace it with was a puzzle.  My husband is too fast for me, he removed the old one before I took a picture, but here is what it looks like without anything in the space. Trust me, it needed replacing!

Here is the new vanity, it is a little bigger and taller than the old one, but we like it.

It is so nice to have a handy, hardworking husband!
