Quick Summer Projects

I decided that my porch needed a little pick me up.  I already had this rocking chair and table sitting on it but they were old worn out wood.  It’s amazing what paint can do, right?

I also ordered a living moss wreath and planted my succulents into it.  It only looks like this right now, and has to lay flat until they root out, but I know I will love it and I’m excited to see how it grows.

Fabulous Finds Friday

I’m adoring this dress, all the while knowing I will not pay that much for a dress for my daughter.  But I may want to.  It’s pretty cute.

I’ve been loving this fabric for a while now and the longer I go not owning it the more I like it.  And wish I owned some :)  Isn’t it unique and beautiful?

Fabulous Finds Friday

Have you seen anything awesome lately?

1651-blue-coastal-living-room

My dreams of going to the beach this summer have just been officially squashed, so I find myself wishing that creating a room like this one above would also make an ocean appear in my backyard.  I particularly like the rug, the coffee table, and the artwork on the wall.

boxcarpress

I have some party invitations to make, and I’d really like to use this printing plate from Boxcar Press.

vintagecakesmiette

These two cookbooks are on my wish list (although I want the hard copy, not the kindle edition).  I love the photography in Vintage Cakes, and the Miette book has scalloped pages which are more lovely than words.

Skinny-Spaghetti-Squash-Alfredo (2)[3]

I’m craving all the squash we’ll be eating at the end of summer.  Spaghetti squash is one I’ve been using for years in place of pasta with great results, and this recipe is at the top of my to-try list.

Have a great weekend!

my dedication to Pantone 2013

I have had this little table in my garage for a few months now.  I paid $1 for it at a yard sale and figured it would be a good entry table near the front door.

I believe in the power of paint. Most of my house has old items that have been painted new and I love the transformation when I finish painting something. On Monday I finished painting this table. And Tuesday night I placed it in my planned spot.

I love adding pops of color in my house that can be easily changed. The color I used for this is Valspar Tantalizing Teal and I love it.  It’s my dedication to Pantone’s 2013 color of the year: emerald.  Although it has a bit more teal in it than the typical color, I’m in love.

20130529-110312.jpgNow I’m considering painting my front door this color.  It’s definitely bright, but I think it would be super fun.  If I can just convince husband…. or maybe go a shade lighter so it’s not too bright for him. What do you think?

What I’m Working on Wednesday

tulapink100blocks

I am excited to have started on my City Sampler quilt.  After making a test block and then doing some thinking, I decided I’m going to make this quilt in all blues.  When I say that I mean blue, periwinkle, aqua, a bit of citron and green, with some whites and grays.  I have always loved blue and have a ton of blue fabric, so making it this way is totally “me.”

blocks1and11

I’m following the outline that Intrepid Thread is doing in their quilt along so above are blocks #1 and #11.

Blocks 21 and 31.

Blocks 41 and 51.

block61

For some reason the last one, number 61, is my favorite.  The fabrics don’t coordinate like they do in the other blocks but I really love the vintage feel of the prints in this block.

I have three more blocks to make in order to finish the ten/month goal.  I’m really enjoying these blocks as they come together quickly and the piecing is simple.  I’m excited for my rainbow of blues to take shape!

Fabulous Finds Friday

I want to make this necklace that I found on pinterest. I love how colorful it is.

This rainbow scrap quilt from The Ballarat Patchwork is calling to me. If I ever get around to it, I will definitely share here.rainbow scrap quilt

I made chocolate covered bacon for my husband for our anniversary today. I just drizzled it over the bacon instead of completely covering it. We will see if he likes it or not.

Happy Friday!

I bought this broken herringbone quilt pattern from violet craft and I’m finally getting around to working on it! I have all my strips sewn together and now I need to cut and re-piece. I’m loving it so far and am excited to finish!

Garden time!

Mother’s Day has passed and now it is safe to plant a garden in Colorado! I’m so excited to get everything in the ground and to watch it grow!

My herbs are coming back in full force from last year and I have already been able to cut from them to use in the kitchen! Ill be adding several varieties of basil along with dill, rosemary, parsley, and mint.

My huge find over the weekend was a yellow peony! I’ve been wanting some for years but couldn’t swallow the price of ordering online. I saw this one single yellow plant at Home Depot and immediately snatched it up! I’m off to find the perfect place in the yard for it.

Fabulous Finds Friday

I’m loving this camera pencil sharpener.  I have an old camera collection and our pencil sharpener just bit the dust so I’m thinking this may be just the thing.

Because I have recenlty been using my phone more to take pictures, and often over ledges and near water, I decided having a case with a strap would be a great idea for me.  I don’t know if it would end up driving me crazy or not but it would make me feel better knowing that I wouldn’t be paying to replace a phone if I dropped it.  I think I may give it a try.

I’ve been more and more intrigued with the whole Project Life way of scrapbooking.  I can see my daughers loving it as a fun way of journal writing and scrapbooking.  I especially like the precut insert cards ready to be journaled on.  Very cute.

And lastly, I love these new pants I got a few days ago at Cabelas.  I already want to live in them.  So comfy and perfect for hiking and exploring.

What I’m working on Wednesday

Jennifer and I took a paper piecing class last week. It was so fun to learn paper piecing and to learn by making this block! I love it and want to make more.
